Photo Guide

Choosing the right
reference image

Your photo is the foundation of the portrait. Here is precisely what to look for.

What a great photo has
Sharp focus, especially on the eyes and face
Natural, even light — outdoors or near a window
Your pet facing forward or at a 3/4 angle
High resolution — at least 1,500px on the short side
Pet filling most of the frame
A calm, natural expression that shows their personality
What to avoid
Blurry, grainy, or low-light images
Flash photography — creates flat, lifeless results
Small thumbnails or heavily compressed files
Pet too small in the frame — face detail is lost
Heavy shadows, objects, or other animals obscuring the face
Strong filters that alter the natural coat colors
A note from Christian: Take your pet outside on a bright, overcast day — the diffused light is ideal. Kneel to their eye level and take several frames while they're calm. If you have multiple photos, send them all; Christian will select the strongest one.

Client Stories

Painted with love,
treasured forever

"
I commissioned a portrait of my dog Biscuit after he passed, and I am speechless. Christian captured every detail — the curl of his ears, the softness in his eyes. It hangs above our fireplace and brings us so much comfort.

I gifted this to my mom for her birthday and she cried. The likeness to her cat Luna is incredible. Christian was easy to work with, sent progress photos, and delivered ahead of schedule. Will absolutely order again.

"
My two horses, side by side, exactly how they stand at sunset. The attention to the light and texture of their coats is remarkable. Truly a piece of art we will pass down through our family.

Questions

Frequently asked
questions

How long does a portrait take?
Most commissions are completed within 2–3 weeks. Heirloom-size pieces take 3–4 weeks. Rush orders with a one-week turnaround are available for an additional $80.
What if I'm not happy with the result?
Every commission includes at least one free revision round. If you have concerns after revisions, Christian will continue working until you are genuinely satisfied.
Can I commission a memorial portrait?
Absolutely, and it would be an honor. As long as you have a clear reference photograph, Christian can create a beautiful tribute to your companion.
Do you paint animals other than dogs and cats?
Yes — horses, rabbits, birds, reptiles, and other companions are all welcome. Reach out with your photo and Christian will confirm pricing.
Oil or acrylic — which should I choose?
Acrylic dries faster and produces vibrant results. Oil allows deeper blending and a luminous, classic finish. Not sure? Christian will recommend based on your pet and style.
How does shipping work?
Paintings ship fully insured with tracking. Domestic shipping is included in all prices. International shipping is available — contact for rates before ordering.
